  • Vintage Hand Fan, Spanish Style, El Corte Ingles Folding Fan, Victorian Scenes on Fabric, Lace, Tortoiseshell-Look Open Cut-Work Ribs, Romantic, Collectible Elegant Fan, Retains Store Sticker, (Discontinued)
  • Vintage: 1960's - 1970's (estimated)
  • Details:   This is a gorgeous hand fan, sold by the famous El Corte Ingles store, it is quite large, 18" when opened.  It features several Victorian-inspired romantic scenes similar to those from Jean-Honoré Fragonard and François Boucher.  It has intricate silver and gold work on the faux tortoiseshell ribs, as well as on both guards, and it's edged with lace on the top border.  This one retains the original store sticker on back which reads:  "El Corte Ingles", which is a highly desirable brand.
  • How to Use: Still practical for keeping cool.  We also love them as home decor; whether framed and hung on the wall, opened on a base/stand on a tabletop. Used as a backdrop for figurines or other knick-knacks, or several displayed together on a wall. These make great gifts for Valentines Day, Mother's day and birthdays.
  • Material:  Celluloid & Fabric
  • Dimensions:  Open - 18.0 inches Wide.  Closed - 10.0 inches Long
  • Condition: Vintage - Used.  Excellent Vintage Condition.  There is no discoloration, tears or any other issues noted.   Please review pictures and make sure you love this item before purchasing, we can't accept returns.  Please remember these are ANTIQUE and VINTAGE items, they are NOT new, every effort has been made to show scratches, wear and tear and imperfections.

Hand Fans - Fans have been around since Roman times but these hand held - folding fans were introduced in the West during the 17th Century, and quickly became popular.  These were not only great for keeping cool, they also kept bugs and unworthy suitors away.  They became a fashion accessory, much like a brooch or bracelet, these were decorative pieces of art to be worn and shown.

El Corte Ingles is a department store headquartered in Madrid, Spain.  Founded by Ramon Areces and Cesar Rodriguez in 1940, it is the largest department store group in Europe, and the third-largest in the world.  In October 2013, the firm sold a 51% stake in the financing department to the Spanish banking group Grupo Santander.  In 2019, El Corte Inglés sold IECISA to GFI and they remain in business today.
